Why Your Instagram Isn’t Growing And What You Can Do About It

That’s a question we have all been asking ourselves. Is there some secret group or society you have to join to enter the thousand following club? The answer is simple, no.

One of the things I have studied to reach a certain milestone is that it all comes down to the engagement. You can have thousand of followers and zero engagement. The bigger engagement you get from your followers, the bigger audience outreach you get and you begin to earn money. Though I haven’t hit the hundred thousand following club yet, I am on my way!

1. Feed Your Feed

Now you might be wondering if I am talking about actually posting food on the feed (perfect if you are a food blogger), but no that’s not what I am talking about.

Ask yourself – what is the first thing you notice when you visit some Instagram account? The Feed! After I became serious about my Instagram and started to work on my feed my following began to grow. One of the first things a person looks for in a potential new favorite is the color range, the filters and most importantly the content. But, if you want to succeed in Instagram you have to choose your focus niche.  What do you want your branding to be about? If you are a beauty blogger, post beauty related content and the same goes if you are in fashion. Let’s be real, no one really likes memes and silly videos of cats chasing their own tail. Remember to stick to your niche and post things that relate to your life and interests!

2. Be Serious About Your Content

If you want to go far on Instagram you have to show people you are serious about your content. Want to work with some of the bigger shoe brands? Start by posting photos like them and ask to be featured! This is a great way to grow your Instagram! The more brands and PR’s sees you taking your Instagram to professional heights, the more they want to work with you!

3. Post Quality Photos

Choose photos in good quality and come up with creative and different ways to showcase your photos on the feed. People love to discover new accounts and if you have a unique feed people will follow you. Think new, think different! If you don’t have a good enough mobile camera to take photos with, it is worth investing in a good enough camera.

4. Choose Your Main Filter

After I became serious about Instagram I am only using a specific filter which makes my photos look lighter and more vibrant on the feed. I use two apps for my photos, Afterlight and AirBrush. Remember that this is supposed to represent your Instagram. In my opinion, posting photos with different filters make the feed look messy and unorganized.

5. Engage with your followers

I can’t tell you enough how important it is to engage with your followers. I always follow my followers back (if I find their content interesting) and tend to pop in now and then to like and comment on their photos. This is the mandatory thing you need to do if you want to succeed as an Instagrammer. The more love you give, the more love you receive back!

6. Look at it as your full-time job

If you are reluctant to change your Instagram metrics I don’t think there are other ways you can grow. I think it depends on whether you want to make a living off it, or just use it as a hobby, but if you want to work with the bigger brands, go to exclusive invite-only parties and meet other Instagram people this is the way to do it. I like to think of it as a full-time job (though I am not getting paid much), but I know that in the end, it will all be worth it.

7. Sign Up To A Management

Nowadays using a management becomes more and more normal and it is the best way to find your niche target. If you don’t know where to hit your best audience and followers, signing up to a management program can really do wonders. Of course, some people may look at it as a cheating way of life, but in today’s society it isn’t and it’s the perfect opportunity for beginners to grow as a brand. I have used mine for 5 months and I am very satisfied with the service, the people, and the outcome. They have truly helped me find my best target and I have gotten so many opportunities using them!

However always make sure you do research beforehand, I do not recommend signing up to some random company.

8. Find Your Best Hashtags

I find that it helps using hashtags with fewer users. Using hashtags that have over 1 million users won’t do any justice for your account. Therefore I recommend finding less popular hashtags by using an app. I use the TagsForLikes app to find suitable hashtags.

9. Write Captions That Relates To People

Whatever it is you are posting, your feed should relate to your followers. If you are posting about a vacation you have or the newest fragrance from a specific brand, remember that it is meant to engage with your followers. Ask them questions about whether they have tried the fragrance or been to your holiday spot? This is a great way to create engagement and receive comments! According to a study using the word “comment” gives 80% more comments than not using it.

10. Approach Brands

Nothing comes to you without putting any work into it. If you want to work with a specific brand I recommend sending them an email or direct message. Not every brand has the time to see every feed there is on Instagram, therefore it is always a trick in the book approaching them first. This does not only show them your feed, it also shows them your work ethic and interests in working with them! 1993
